The Prelude Duel in the Morning: Elena Winkelmann vs. Elisabeth Pähtz
Atmospheric Prelude to the Women´s European Championship
Marco Held
The morning was the wedding for the media, in the evening came the players to the proper honor - with two presentations began the European Women´s Championship in the Treff-Hotel. About 11 o'clock both of Dresden´s promising players fought a duel under the gathered guild of the local press on the board and presented the tension of the chess. U18-World Master Elisabeth Pähtz played a flash game versus the 12 year-old Elena Winkelmann. To the astonishment of the present media, the game was tramsferred and presented over a large screen. There are numerous questions to answer, and many questions will be taken. First of all, chess mascot "Chessy" did his service in the Elbe town, Dresden.

The Master of Organisation - Dr. Dirk Jordan
Gala Dinner in Germany´s Chess Capital
(K.J.)
The ceremonial opening festival for the European Women´s Championship was complete for the participants with a wonderful menu and speeches from local and regional prominent political figures. That is to say, moderated by the tournament director, Dr. Dirk Jordan, under the eyes of ECU-President Boris Kutin, with the numerous present appreciators and guests, and in addition, the Saxonian Social Minister Helma Orosz who was especially pleased that the Dresden organizers have succeeded to get a women's European championship in the Saxon capital. In the end, feminine chess players are in Saxony a rarity, so that such an arrangement can be a motivation for many even to try out competitional play. Also Dresden´s Chief Mayor Infolg Roßberg ís hopeful that someday she will be able to greet a world master from Dresden in the "Book of the City". The city is as the "chess metropolis of Germany" on the right path
in making the rights moves for a succesful application to host the Chess Olympics 2008. He wished the participants, in the name of all the orginizations and spectators, many good moves in the Women´s European Championship and "that it is possible that only first after many moves Check and Mate to be called!".
