Victory for Zhaoqin Peng against Elisabeth Pähtz
Weak pawns gained one point headstart
Marco Held / Dagobert Kohlmeyer (K.J.)
This is the tournament of her life – the first rounds of the European Championship were brilliant for 35-year-old Zhaoqin Peng. Today the Chinese, who is playing for the Netherlands since 1996, won against Elisabeth Pähtz. Elisabeth from the sports high school was disappointed but could smile again after the game: „I had to give away a pawn, I did not have enough time to play.” said the 19-year-old. “That wasn`t my day. After the victory two weeks ago when I could defeate her in the German League.” After her fiths victory Zhaoqin Peng is one point in the lead „It was a good game against Elisabeth. I could change a lot of pieces and play against her weak pawns. Nevertheless, I have to think from game to game. 12 rounds are a lot and I cant play with full power every day.“ , she said. Zhaoqin Peng is known to a lot of chess friends since years. She comes from Kanton in China and played 1988-1994 in the national team; she married to the Netherlands in the middle of the 90s. Today Peng lives in Rotterdam and has a 4-year-old son. She already played three times for the Netherlands at chess oplympics. The dainty women with stubborn will prefers positionel stile of chess. But is also able to follow up her advantage like against Elisabeth Pähtz.
Tina Mietzner had bad luck – black agianst Olga Alexandrova
Exciting draw-fights on the stage

Behind the hollander all favourites had only draw. The Swedish European Champion Pia Cramling agreed with move-repetion agaimst Lilit Mkrtchian and the young Russian talent Nadezhda Kosintseva gave into peacefully. All in all 13 players have their 4 points.

It was a good day for the 14-year-old Ukrainean Anna Muzychuk, who won an excellent ending against Monica Calzetta from Spain. She shares rank 15 with Elisabeth Pähtz, both have 3,5 points.
Four of the Dresdener players could get a draw yesterday. Elena Winkelmann, 12 years old and the youngest player of the tournament, could make her first 0,5 points in a game against Diana Skibbe from Gera. Also Claudia Meißner as well as mother and daughter Galina and Evgenija Shmirina could win a draw. Evgenija was pressed for time and could not win against Monika Tsiganova from Estonia. Tina Mietzner had bad luck again. Yesterday she lost with black pieces against Olga Alexandrova, top-ten player. Toworrow it`s half time of the 12-round-tournament. The tension is kept because in round 6 the top-duel Peng versus Cramling is going to be a delicacy.
