Zhaoqin Peng in used manners winner against Foisor
Peng and Kostenjuk play for gold
Marco Held / Dagobert Kohlmeyer (K.J.)
Although the last round of the Chess EC was played today there is no winner yet. At the 12th round both top players won their games and they are going to compete again on Saturday.
Zhaoqin Peng and Alexandra Kosteniuk are not only playing the rapid game for the title of the European Champion but also for a cup of Dresdner porcelain. Vize-World Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk (Russia) was first and won against her young compatriot Tatiana Kosintseva after a dramatic game. However she was very lucky. The 18-year-old Kosintseva lost ground after an exciting attack. So she lost within few moves while chess star Kosteniuk could be pleased about her chance for the title.
After the game Kosteniuk only thought about the result of her strongest opponent Peng Zhaoqin. The Dutchwomen made a fine strategical victory against Rumanian Cristina Foisor. Peng won with the black pieces after 56 moves. Kosteniuk and Peng finished the tournament with 9,5 points and will compete from 15 o´clock with less thinking time for the title. First there will be two games with 15 minutes. Do both have 1 point afterwards, there will be thinking time of 5 minutes.
Although defeated in the final round an optical highlight: Jana Krivec
IM-Joy for two Germans

Also rank three will be decided among four players. Besides Irina Slavina and Natalia Zhukova, who made draw, also Nana Dzagnidze and Antoaneta Stefanova are among the chasers with one point leeway. Bulgarian Stefanova won against the hope from Dresden Elisabeth Pähtz. The 19-year-old was under preassure gainst European Champion of 2002 and lost a pawn which made her lose the game. In the end she has rank 16 with 7,5 points out of 12 rounds. Unfortunatelly half a point is missing to fight for the qualification for the World Championship.
Enormous joy for Evgenija Shmirina. The 14-year-old pupil at the sports High School secured herself her sixth point with draw against Russian Sandugach Shaidullina and with it the IM
standard, which is given to her immediately after the 12 rounds. The same applies to Anne Czäczine, from Chemnitz, who had to back down against Polish Joanna Dworakowska but has also six points.
It is a fantastic German result for Jessica Nill who has 6,5 points and rank 46 after her draw against Nadezhda Kosintseva. Also Elena Winkelmann could win her first game against Ursula Hielscher and was above heaven. This means rank 102 for the 13-year-old. Ulrike Rößler won her final game and has 6 points as well as Tina Mietzner with her draw against Russian Tatiana Stepovaia. Five points made Claudia Meißner and Galina Shmirina, who finished with half a point against Olga Vasiliev.
