| They showed a German Duel full of suspense on the stage: Jessica Nill versus Elisabeth Pähtz |

Favourites fell on stage
Marco Held / Dagobert Kohlmeyer (K.J.)
Numerous friends of chess came to Treff-Hotel to follow the 2nd round`s games of the strongest women of the continent live and closely. One of the most popular people in the hall was the swiss top player Yannick Pelletier, who however, had only eyes for the board of his girlfriend – Elisabeth Pähtz. She had difficulties in the "German Duel" versus Jessica Nill. Elisabeth chose the King`s Indian Defence, a beginning that can be plaid successfully with black. The Baden-Ooser Jessica Nill was tired and disappointed at the end of the game: „Actually it was me who stood in a better position from the beginning of the first moves. I made two mistakes somewhen and I had to sacrifice a piece. I dont know whether I had any chances on draw afterwards!“ Elisabeth Pähtz could just smile after her successful fight for "clean hands" and said: "As hard as yesterday", and disappeared with Yannick Pelletier from the play hall. The u18 World Champion from 2002 stands at a good position for the next days of the tournament with the two victories, especially as some favourites were not in their best conditions today.

Ukrainischean Talent is brilliant
(K.J.)
Even three of the six best women had to back down and were disappointed with their results. Especially Urainean Natalia Zhukova, European Champion of 2000, was upset about the defeat of 14-year-old compatriot Anna Muzychuk. The super-talent is very well known to the Dresdeners because she played already two times in the ZMD-Open. Nana Dsagnidze had to back down against Zeinab Mamedjarova, the sister of Junior-World-Champion, as well as Russian Ekaterina Kovalevskaya against Tea Bosboom-Lanchava. After all, favourite Pia Cramling had to give away half a point versus Russian Tatiana Stepovaia. Only FIDE Star Alexandra Kosteniuk showed no infermity (but today just in Cord-suit and not in chess-like outfit), while Bulgarian top player Antoaneta Stefanova had huge problems with Polish Joanna Dworakowska and could only win after 89 moves. The Dresdener players showed results as expected. Elena Winkelmann had a hard time against Serbian top player Natasa Bojkovic, and Evgenija Shmirina had hoped for an easier opponent in vain, too. After the defeat against Polish Marta Zielinska there shall be the first victory in round three for the Vize-European Champion. Tina Mietzner, Ulrike Rößler and Claudia Meißner reached this yesterday in round two. But Anne Czäczine from Chemnitz had to back down against Armenian Lilith Mkrtchian after her sensational victory against Rumenian Christina Adela Foisor.
