She is from Georgia, where every girl gets a chess set as a gift when she gets married. Ketevan Arakhamia began to play top chess very early, already at the age of 20 she played with the female team of UdSSR and later on of Georgia. She won all in all two gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the chess olympics. The GM is living in Scottland since 1996 and is married to chess player John Grant. But still, Keti Arakhamia plays for her home country on international stages.

How many times did you take part in an European Champioship?
All in all this is my fourth EC. I won the bronz medal 2001 in Warschaw.
Who is your favourite in Dresden?
There are lots of players. Every women from the top ten that is here could win. But there have been falls already.
What motivates you most at a tournament?
The game itself. I won a lot of prizes during my life. The main thing for me is to enjoy chess.
Are there things that are more important than the king of games?
Sure. My family is always the most important.
Why is your husband not here?
He is at home and looks after our 5-year-old daughter Jelena.
Does she already play chess?
No, she can set the pieces but that is all. Jelena loves to run. She`d rather bounce around than sit at a table. She keeps on talking all the time.
