Zhaoqin Peng with a light hand „Half Time Master“
Marco Held / Dagobert Kohlmeyer (K.J.)
Zhaoqin Peng had no problems yesterday. The 35-year-old Chinese, playing for the Netherlands, had to play only nine moves against the European Champion Pia Cramling. Now she is „Half time Master“ with half a one point lost after six rounds. Only three chasers could get one more 0,5 points to the leader. Irina Slavina from Russia made an important victory against secret favourite 18-year-old Tatiana Kosintseva. Also Georgian Ketevan Arakhamia-Grant against Elena Sedina from Italy and the top player Elina Danielian from Armenia against Natasa Bojkovic from Serbia are in the lead and have five points. A lot o other players have 4,5 points. Not among them is Elisabeth Pähtz, who had bad luck with Georgian Nana Dzagnidze, set on rank 5. The Dresdener player had a hard job with black against the 17-year-old Junior-World-Champion. Already during the middlegame national team manager of chess Uwe Bönsch and Elisabeth`s father Thomas were scrupling because of the high pressure of Dzagnidze so that Elisabeth inevitably made the decisive mistake. Deeply disappointed the 19-year-old had to back down the second time in a row. There are still six rounds to play and her chances to get a rank under the 12 best and the qualification for the World`s Championship are still standing fair.

Evgenija buoys up Dresden`s spirits
Besides all the other Dresdener players only Evgenija Shmirina could give a bright spot. She separated from Karolina Smokina from Moldavia with draw and was happy about it: „After the game she showed me how I could have gained my advantage. Even so, if I keep playing this way I have a good chance to get my standards for IM.” Evgenija`s mother Galina Shmirina had to back down against Elena Partac another Moldavian GM. But the 38-year-old could laugh again after the game although she was not successful with her difficult endgame. “I made a bad mistake at the end, so everything was finished very fast. But better now than in a better position.“, she said. But Tina Mietzner and Ulrike Rößler had a hard job and their disappointment was enormous. After all, the youngest player Elena Winkelmann had to back down, too. So we hope for the second half of the tournament and for victories of our native asses!
